St. John the Baptist’s day

After Epiphany, Orthodox and Catholic believers are celebrating today Saint John the Baptist, the prophet who baptizes Jesus Christ in the Jordan and who revealed to people that Jesus was the Messiah sent by God. Saint John the Baptist was the last great prophet of the Old Testament also assuring the passage to the New Testament period. The Bible depicts him as leading an ascetic, irreproachable life whose main purpose was to prepare people for the coming of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist was beheaded. His body was taken by his disciples to Samaria, now in Israel, where it was buried.
