Romanian tourism main issues: no promotion and high taxes

The representatives of the National Association of Tourism Agencies (ANAT) said that the lack of a proper local promotion of the tourism programmes and the taxation which is too high are the main issues faced by the Romanian tourism at the moment. ANAT president Corina Martin said that these programmes are unknown in Romania and it should lie with the minister to explain to the Romanian tourist that the “Seaside for everyone” began or that “A week in the mountains” programme starts tomorrow and it costs 300 lei”. ANAT South Muntenia president Adrian Voican in his turn said that “there are legal issues, fees, high taxation. We often compare ourselves to the Bulgarian neighbours but they have a 9 % VAT on everything involving tourism which we have only at accommodation. The tourism agencies have 9 % at them, whereas we do not”. The statements were made during the biannual meeting of the ANAT members in the region South-Muntenia held in Pitesti.
