Romanian processed meat market at EUR 800 mln

According to representatives of local meat producer Meda, Romanians buy on average 200-300 grams of processed meat products three times per week taking the market to about EUR 800 million. Consumption peaks during the autumn months and the lowest sales are reported during the fasting periods before Christmas and Easter and in January. Meda forecasts a EURA 28.5 million turnover for 2013, up 5 % y-o-y. Some 10 % of production is exported to countries with large Romanian communities. In recent years it has become a performance for a meat processing companies to manage not to report losses given the rising costs of raw materials used – prices of inputs were up by 30-60 % at the end of 2012 – commented company representatives.
