Romanian agri-food exports went up 68 % in first 7 months of 2011

According to data the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), the value of Romania’s agri-food exports to EU member states and states outside this area continues to surge, by posting an advance of over 68 % in the first 7 months of 2011 up to 1.736 billion euros, compared with the same period of 2010. Thus, in the first 7 months of 2010, agri-food exports worth 1.033 billion euros have been exported. Although the quantities of products exported by the end of July 2011 were lower than those of the same period of 2010, the export revenues have sharply increased as the prices of the agri-food products recorded major hikes on the global market, against the level of 2010. Also, in the first 7 months, the imports edged up 35 %, amounting to 2.467 billion euros, compared with 1.821 billion euros at end-July 2010.  According to the MADR figures, the cigarettes, the cigars and tobacco products topped the export revenues, standing at 265.54 million euros for a quantity of 5,877 tons.
