Romania: Aircraft Sent To Evacuate Romanians From Libya

On February 23, 2011, the Bucharest media reported that Romania was to send an aircraft to evacuate its nationals from Libya. Dozens of people were killed in anti-government protests in the past few days. Later on, Romania’s foreign minister Teodor Baconschi said a 200-seat aircraft of Romanian flag carrier Tarom would fly to Malta and then to Libya’s capital Tripoli. According to the news agency, the Romanian government has allocated 900 000 lei (about 212 800 euro) for consular support and the evacuation of Romanian citizens from Libya.
