Old wood churches and the religious sites belonging to the UNESCO heritage in Maramures enter tourist circuit

This year, the circuit of wood churches and of the eight religious sites that belong to the UNESCO heritage will be promoted in a distinct tourist package. Two years ago, the Maramures County Council and the County Tourism Office launched the project of restoring the areas surrounding religious sites, a number of historic monuments that entered the tourist circuit and other objectives of the rural and urban zone. Dan Cocosila, project manager with CJ Maramures declared that 14 wood churches and four that belong to the Greek-Catholic Church entered the circuit, along with eight churches that are part of the UNESCO heritage. The promotion project is part of a larger program named “The wood churches circuit of Transylvania,” co-financed with 20,000 RON by the Nord-Vest Cluj-Napoca Regional development Agency.
