Lustration law, passed – former communist officials/ activists banned from public office for five years

On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies passed the lustration law, which imposes five-year rights restrictions on former officials during communism. The draft law was passed by the chamber with 167 votes in favor and four against, in the absence of the opposition. The project provides that the five-year ban from public office will apply to those who held political leading position paid by the Communist Party, members of the Communist Party’s central committee, members of the state council, ministers, publishing house directors.
