Government: Drivers Are To Buy Winter Or All-Season Tires

Starting with November 2011, Romanian drivers will be forced to use winter or all-season tires during the winter season. According to Transport Minister Anca Boagiu, if they will not comply, they will receive fines ranging from 2,500 to RON 4,000. All vehicles heavier than 3.5 tons and transport vehicles with a capacity larger than 9 seats will have to be fitted with winter tires, use chains or other licensed anti-skidding devices. Minister Boagiu also said that the obligation to use winter tires is in force when driving on public roads that are not covered in snow, thus, a driver using chains still has to use/ purchase winter tires.

Again?! I’ve heard this before, this is why I bought new tires in November, two days before they announced that it is not compulsory anymore.

LOL I’ve got them as well! The drive is much better, but I still felt tricked somehow!
