Germany, Austria and Switzerland are Bookfest’s guest of honor

Almost 1 million books will be on display, among them a couple of thousand new titles, and 300 interactive events will join readers, writers, artists and cultural figures. Visitors can purchase books with discounts of up to 50 % at publishing house stands and win, for the first time, substantial prizes at Bookfest tombolas. The country trio made up of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which participate at the book fair as part of the project “Three countries, same language “, developed at the Frankfurt Book Fair, is the guest of honor at this year’s Bookfest. No fewer than 24 book writers and professionals from the three countries will be in Bucharest for the occasion, among them, German Book Awards winners Uwe Tellkamp and Katharina Hacker, Swiss Book of the Year 2011 laureate Catalin Dorian Florescu, two of Austria’s major prose writers of the moment -  Michael Stavaric and Joseph Winkler, Jan Koneffke (Germany) and Christian Haller (Switzerland), as well as representatives of the young generation of German language prose writers – Sasa Staniic, Julya Rabinowich (Germany) and Jolanda Pinel (Switzerland).
