FinMin to keep within 4.4 % of GDP deficit target – PM Emil Boc

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc warns the Public Finances Ministry that the 2011 budget deficit must not exceed the target of 4.4 % of gross domestic product, “no matter how large the needs of some or others are”. Emil Boc spoke at the Government’s sitting, saying that the “budget deficit is not negotiable and in no way whatsoever do we accept to exceed the 4.4 % cap agreed with Parliament by the State Budget Law and also agreed with the international (lending) bodies, because it is a sign of seriousness and credibility of the Romanian state. Therefore, the deficit is not negotiable, no matter how large the needs of some or others are’. The Prime Minister asked his ministers to give priority to the investments that can be completed in 2012 and make public a list of the priority projects in the beginning of next year.
