Draft Act: Romanians Can Drive Cars Registered Abroad Only 90 Days

A draft act amending the law regarding traffic on public roads, now up for debate on the Interior Ministry’s website, says Romanian residents may not drive cars registered in other states for periods longer than 90 days, or for more than three months per year. Exceptions from this rule are granted for cars registered to the people driving them in Romania, cargo transporters or rented vehicles driven by people employed by the owners of the registration, and for vehicles used on the basis of a leasing contract. The act’s note explains that the number of foreign-registered cars driving in Romania has risen significantly following European Union accession.
