Buena Vista Social Club Concert With Omara Portuondo At The Herastrau Summer Theatre

On Saturday, starting 7pm, at the Herastrau Summer Theatre the Cuban music legend Omara Portuondo will play accompanied by the Buena Vista Social Club Orchestra. The artist will be appearing within the TM LIVE event, alongside 14 Cuban instrumentalists. The programme also includes Havana Latin Band, Brazilian Girls, DJ Bidi, Tropical Dance Crew and MC Wilmark. Omara Portuondo was born in Havana in 1930. She dubbed “the Cuban Edith Piaf “and started her career at 15 as a dancer at the Tropicana Club. In 1952, alongside her sister and two other friends, Omara set up the band Cuarteto Las D’Aida. 15 years later, she starts a solo career. Indeed, as early as 1959, she had launched her first solo album, combining jazz and Cuban influences: “Black Magic”. Tickets for the Bucharest concert are priced RON 70, 90 and 110.
