17th Garana Jazz Festival

The Jazz Banat Cultural Foundation, Timisoara, is organizing between July 11 and 14 the 17th Garana International Jazz Festival. The outdoor festival will be held on the outskirts of the namesake location at the foot of Mount Semenic, Caras-Severin Co. Native and foreign jazz players from the US, UK and Norway will be among the artists to perform Thursday thru Sunday, 7.00 pm till dawn. According to, the Charles Lloyd project is called “Sangam” and is part of the artist’s 75th Anniversary Tour. The great saxophonist will be accompanied by two jazz giants in their own right: Zakir Hussain and Eric Harland. This year’s festival will also be an opportunity for a much awaited encounter with some great Romanian jazz players including Peter Wertheimer, Mario Florescu, Peter Sarosi, Luiza Zan, Sorin Romanescu, Eugen Gondi and Nicolas Simion. The big surprise will be the concert given by saxophonist Peter Wertheimer, who got his musical training in Timisoara, left Romania 30 years ago and settled in Israel. He has been involved with various successful international projects.
