“In the Name of the Rose” Festival at Rasnov Fortress

Between August 24 – 26 takes place in the garden of the Rasnov Fortress the fourth edition of the International Academic Historic Festival “In the Name of the Rose”, themed “The nineteenth century city during peace- and wartime”. “This festival is one of a kind in Romania, as it encompasses several historical periods. Whereas in previous years we used to bring to life several historical periods, at this year’s edition we want to focus on just one,” festival director Nicolae Pepene told a press conference. Participating in the festival are 88 ‘soldiers’ representing associations from Romania, Bulgaria, Austria and France. Historic moments will be reenacted in the Fortress Garden, featuring sequences of the campaign life, soldiers training, troops review, battlefield kitchen, but also the soldiers’ ways to have some entertainment on the battlefield. Each participating association will have its own tent in the Fortress Garden. Objects specific to a soldier’s life will also be on exhibit. The festival begins on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the central plaza of Rasnov, with the presentation of the participants. The festival with battle scenes and battlefield specific activities will take place on Saturday, between 10.00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., in the Fortress Garden. The last day of the event, Sunday, kicks off at 10.00 a.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m. with the handing of the participation diplomas and the festival wrap-up ceremony.
