Monetary Policy Interest Kept At 6.25% – Central Bank

Yesterday, in the meeting the Board of the National Bank of Romania, the members decided to leave unchanged the monetary policy rate at 6.25 % per annum, in order to ensure adequate management of liquidity in the banking system and to maintain the existing levels of minimum reserve requirement ratios on both leu- and foreign currency-denominated liabilities of credit institutions. The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will launch on July 4 the first payment system in EUR under the name of Target2-Romania, part of the Target2 European system, which will assure the immediate settlement of interbank payments. A number of 22 banks will participate in the system.
