This Friday, Romanian President Traian Băsescu, the PM Emil Boc and the Senate president Mircea Geoana are expected to meet with Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor during her official visit to the country. The private talks between the two heads of governments will be followed by talks in the plenum of the two formal delegations and the signing ceremony of some bilateral documents.

According to a press release from the Romanian Government, the officials will seal the Memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA) and the Ministry of Economy from Croatia and the Cooperation Protocol between the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) and the homonym ministry of Croatia.

Recently, President Basescu declared that Romania would not condition Croatia’s membership upon implementation of cooperation and verification mechanisms (CVM) with which Romania must also comply. The Romanian President said that Romania must make further efforts in fulfilling the conditions necessary for entrance into the Schengen zone. “At the core of the Romanian politics is not placing conditions for Croatia’s entrance into the EU, but the unrestrained support for the accession of western Balkan states”, Traian Basescu said.
