The 23rd edition of Mozart Festival in Cluj

The main protagonists of the 23rd edition of the Mozart Festival in Cluj (December 6-13) will be trumpetist Margit Csökmei, flutist Seiya Ueno, oboist Ye Chang Jung, violonist Friedericke Starkloff, pianists Alexandra Schmiedel and Viniciu Moroianu and Arcadia Quartet. The inaugural concert will be devoted partly to the trumpet, an instrument proposed in two versions, the chromatic one being used to highlight in musical terms Mozart’s era with a work of his father, Leopold, and with one of his friend Haydn, followed by one of his last symphony No. 39. The closing concert will be conducted in an old way, with Ladislas Horváth being concertmaster, patterned on Leopold Mozart. Pianist Moroianu Viniciu will propose for the first time an arrangement of Dinu Lipatti devoted to Clara Haskil, for the Concert for Piano and Orchestra (KV 595). The festival will also include a special concert for children, as well as a symposium devoted to Mozart’s vocal music. This year’s edition was supported by the German Cultural Centre in Cluj and by a Swiss-Romanian Cooperation Programme.
