Business investment rate goes up in the euro area

The business investment rate was 19.2% in the euro area in the second quarter of 2013, compared with 18.8% in the first quarter of 2013. This comes as a result of a higher increase in investment (+3.2%) than in gross value added (+0.9%) while total stocks (materials, supplies and finished goods) fell. In the EU27 the investment rate was 18.9% in the second quarter 2013, compared with 18.8% in the previous quarter. In the EU27, the business profit share was 37.1% in the second quarter of 2013, compared with 36.8% in the first quarter of 20133. In the euro area the profit share was 37.9% in the second quarter, compared with 37.5% in the previous quarter.
