Rovana Plumb: Shale gas exploration presents no risk

Environment Minister Rovana Plumb declares that the exploration of shale gas in Romania does not present any risk because it is being done like the exploration of conventional gas, not through hydraulic fracturing. Also, she pointed out that she issued an environment permit for the exploration in the Dobrogea area. “Any investment has to respect all the environment protection norms and regulations. As long as the hydraulic fracturing method is not used in what concerns the exploration of shale gas in Romania there is no risk from the point of view of environment protection. So, both for the Dobrogea area and for the other areas where foreign companies asked for licenses of prospecting and exploration that environment permit can be issued with no risk existing from the point of view of the environment,” Rovana Plumb stated on Monday at a press conference in Constanta.
