Romania to build engine for IAR-111 supersonic aircraft

The Romanian Cosmonautics and Aeronautics Association (ARCA) started building an engine for the IAR-111 supersonic aircraft. ARCA chairman Dumitru Popescu stated that they consider this engine the heart of the non-governmental space program. The engine will be fitted both on the IAR-111 plane, as well as on the Haas II rockets for the Google Lunar X Prize Competition and Haas III rockets which ARCA is currently designing. In the first stage, 18 engines will be produced for the tests scheduled to start by mid-2012. The IAR-111 plane engine was called “Executor”. ARCA initiated a fund-raising campaign for the building of the engine.
